1954 Color TV's (image) March 1954: Here the world's first production color sets are tweaked at the RCA factory. The first ever NTSC national telecast had only just been the Rose Bowl Parade Jan. 1, 1954. These sets didn't sell. The round 15" picture tube had a flat plate inside for the tricolor dot screen which was masked down to a tiny picture. By December 1954 RCA had already switched to the familiar 21" round tube with the dots applied directly to the front glass.
